We Want a Do-Over

We were looking forward to having three whole days off together. We pretty much got a half of a day where we were together and not stressed. We went to the beach on Friday morning and had a great time, went to lunch together (Robert, Hayden and I). It was grand. Then it started. The crying, the whining, the pulling at the ears, the runny nose, the red eyes, constant clinging and fighting sleep. Yes, we're in another round of teething accompanied by a cold. Which made for two and a half days of stress, exhaustion and not much of a break. I think we were all ready to get back to work this morning. So, we want a do-over to the weekend.

It Doesn't Matter

I was reminded yet again that the little things don't matter. We sat in traffic for about 45 minutes this morning. There was an accident on the same bridge as Hayden and my accident. Once we finally got up to it, there was a mini-van in front, a older bronco/blazer flipped over and two other cars (which rear ended each other). I gasped as I saw it and looked at the woman sitting on the side of the road in a daze. I gave her a smile trying to say, "I'm sorry for you and I've been there." I then tuned to face the road ahead and burst in to tears. Thanked God for sparing us and cried all the way to Hayden's daycare. We all need a reminder that the little things in live don't matter. Laundry, a clean house, overtime at work. They don't matter, now and it won't matter in 10 years from now. Love your family, your friends and yourself. Take the time for them. Do what is necessary and remember and check yourself now and again. Does what you're doing or ranking in importance on your list benefit you, your family? If something were to happen, would you be okay with your decisions? If not, change them and remember to enjoy each moment.

Birthday Weekend.

Tomorrow is Robert's birthday. We are taking it easy and having some family time. We went to Middleton Place Plantation this morning and it was great. A little hot (91 in the shade), but we all had a great time. It's so nice and peaceful out there. I just set up wirless in our house, yes, I was in the dark ages. Really, I got it because we're getting Tivo tomorrow. Well, Robert is for his birthday. Shhh, he doesn't know it yet, but because he reads my blog once a year, I'm sure my secret is safe. It was a good excuse to have wireless.

I hope you all have a great weekend. Enjoy your time together and the warm weather.

In Perspective

This is a great campaign from Germany, but the message is universal. If you don't choke up, you're my hero. If you do choke up watching it, you have kids.

Flight Home

Well, Teresa is on a flight back to Michigan. She's brown and blonder than she's ever been thanks to 10 days at the beaches of South Carolina. Here are a few quotes from her time here: (Wave pounds her in the head, gasps for air), "Have I told you thank you for moving here yet?" "If I die and I am lucky enough to go to heaven, I hope it looks like this" (as sitting on the beach at Sullivan's Island). I think from those quotes, she had a great time. I'm sad to see her go home, but feel a little more complete having her here. The last time we were together for this extended period of time was in 1999 when we went to Europe together. Good times, will post pictures soon!

Cheers!

Cheers to my friend Duncan in London who introduced me to the band, The Enemy. A classic London sound with a bit of an edge. Don't bother looking on iTunes, listen to them here. http://www.theenemy.com/home.php

Fun and Sun - All Weekend

What a great weekend! I took Friday off from work, Teresa and I dropped Hayden at daycare and headed to the beach. We stopped by the grocery store to get a 6'er of beers for the beach. We decided on canned Coronas (can't have glass on the beach). I said, what will we do for the lime? Teresa being her super brilliant self walked confidently to the produce section and picked up a small container of lime juice. This is why I hang out with her, I would have never thought of that. We went to the beach, drank a few beers swam in the ocean and laid out. Teresa who is already as brown as an Indian did fine. My Irish ass is now the color of a lobster though no one is surprised. I do it every year.

We were going to spend the rest of the weekend at the beach with Robert and Hayden, our two favorite boys, but Robert was sick all weekend. So, he stayed home as we all got in our bathing suits and headed to the beach. It was a great weekend, but we missed having Robert with us.

Now, I'm back at work, Robert is at home and Teresa is heading to the beach again. I hope you all have a good and productive week.
