As Hayden gets older, he's quickly learning more and more. We're stunned when a new word flops out of his mouth, "Juice? Shoes? Snacks?" etc. He's always listening and studying-- always learning. We went to the beach on Sunday and this was his first trip as a full fledge walker. We set him down and boom he was on a dead run to the water. We ran to grab him and he didn't understand why he couldn't go in. He watched the water, saw, felt and tried to eat a star fish and felt the wind on his face. Always learning.
As a parent, I'm always learning too. Two important lessons learned for me this weekend. One: If daycare sends your sons jeans and a shirt home wet in a plastic bag because he "spilled his drink". Do not wait 5 days to throw it in the wash, chances are was milk he spilled and when you open the bag, you'll want to pass out from the smell and have to throw it out because it's got more mold on it than you could imagine. Two and the mother of all lessons. When you get your baby ready for bed and he thinks it's so funny to run down the hall screaming out of naked joy. Do not just stand there and think, "how cute! look at his naked butt" because when you do, at that exact second, you will see poop come out of that cute butt on to your white carpet and he will keep running leaving presents along the way. Also, get a diaper and put it on the child don't just stand there stunned that, "you can't believe that just happened". Move woman! He'll do it again if you let him. Good times.

Vino
I go through this about twice a year. I want wine. I'm a beer girl all the way, but I do wish I could have a glass of good wine now and again. I'm craving it. The problem, I don't know what to buy. My wine requirements are below, please post or email me with your suggestions. I know a lot of you boozers out there buy wine by the case, so I am relying on your expertise.
Wine must be:
1. Preferably white of some sort, red dries me out. However, if you have a red that is the best thing you've ever had, list it, I'll give it a whirl
2. Not dry, but not too sweet (I want more than one glass)
3. Not a ton of money per bottle (under $25)
I need names and type (e.g., Coppola, Chardonnay 2007).

Obligated
There isn't a whole lot to report on, but I feel obligated to write. A few of our headlines and then I'm back to work.
We had the stomach flu whip through our house last week. Glad that is behind us. My parents are moving down the road from us this coming weekend. We're going to the pumpkin patch this weekend to get annual pumpkins and the token picture with them. Robert and I are busy at work. The weather is awesome (we're supposed to get to 87 today). Hayden is walking like a champ and saying a few new words now and again. However, if you don't listen for them, you'll miss them. Oh yeah, he is going to be a lion for Halloween. Gas by our house is $2.93, which don't even get me started on that topic. I'm reading a really good book called The American Wife, which I can't put down.
So, that's our update. I'm happy that this post is at a minimum with no emotion. Which means that our life is relatively normal these days. I'm off to enjoy it!

I saw a gas station on the way in to work selling gas for $2.99. Okay, can ANYONE explain to me how it can go down $1.00 in a matter of a month? Did we find some new oil fields to bomb? If the government isn't involved in this conspiracy, I don't know what else to make of it.

Give that kid a cup of Joe!
It has been a strange few days. It all started off normally, then Robert and I got the stomach flu. I spend most of my Wednesday, praying to two Gods, one made of porcelain and the other more obvious one. Having both parents down, is impossible. I thanked God for my parents being in town. We finally made it out alive on Thursday and back to work today.
Last night, one of you gave Hayden a cup of Joe, I know it. Own up to it and no one will get hurt. I put Hayden to bed and just as I shut off my light to sleep, he woke up. I rocked him and he was just...awake. He drank water, begged for me to read him a story (which was cute the first few times) and smiled at me a lot. The first few times, I couldn't help but laugh as he sat up to blow me a kiss or to growl at the lion in the book. Then when it rolled around the 5th time of putting him back asleep to only find him crying out for a story, I was less than amused. It was like that child drank a cup of coffee. Though I am still recovering from the flu and was a little upset that I got four hours of sleep last night, I know I will cherish those memories always. I will always remember his little face highlighted only by the nightlight, his eagerness for me to turn the page because he knows next is the lion and his part to growl loudly. I will remember his smile behind the pacifier and most of all, I will remember the feeling that rushed through every inch of my body. Undying love that is passed back and forth between us. Something that is unexplainable, but the reason I am here. So, I say that, but secretly hope that tonight hope the kid chooses decaf!

A Simple Mind
Maybe I'm a simple minded person, but for more reasons than just this, it doesn't makes sense to me, anyone?
If our country has a $311 BILLION dollar deficit. Yet, we just spent $700 BILLION dollars to bail out companies who used their bad leadership to run their company in the ground. The leadership still get their big houses and millions of dollars meanwhile people are wondering where they're going to get the $8 to buy a gallon of milk.
Second, Wells Fargo just bought Wachovia for $15.1 BILLION dollars. Okay, let's put this is perspective. How much exactly is a BILLION dollars. Do they have one BILLION dollars laying around (rhetorical question)? Why has it become a normal amount of money. Wasn't it just yesterday that we all laughed as Mike Myers, said, "for one BILLION dollars." We all laughed because it was an incomprehensible amount of money. Now it's the norm? Are basketball players now going to be paid one BILLION dollars per year? What about one GAZILLION or maybe one FILLION? I mean come on, where is our perspective.
UPDATE: An add on, just saw where California is asking for a $7 BILLION dollar loan to keep normal government operations running. Shit, why didn't Michigan think of that. I mean the state could make a huge turn with $7 BILLION dollars. Seriously, I am going to walk in to my boss and demand that my salary go to $55 BILLION dollars. This is stupid. See? Another reason why I can't watch TV or listen to the news.

Have Some Pride & Get a Publicist

Just how bad the housing market really is hit home Wednesday after the dust settled on the auction of a residence in Saginaw, Mich.
With all of eight bids on eBay, the abandoned home went to Joanne Smith, 30, of Chicago – who, reports the Saginaw News, paid a grand total of $1.75.
"I am going to try and sell it," said Smith, who is originally from Miami and doesn't intend to leave Chicago, even to visit her new house. "I don't have any plans to move to Saginaw."
Besides shelling out her bargain price, Smith has until March 31 to pay back taxes and a bill for weed cleanup on the property. That comes to about $850.
''The people who I bought the house from, they are not giving me any information about it,'' Smith said. ''I know that the property is abandoned and that there are taxes owed on the house, but all I have is their e- mail.''
The sellers could not be reached by the Saginaw News.

McCain pulling out of Michigan
John McCain is pulling out of Michigan, according to two Republicans, a stunning move a month away from Election Day that indicates the difficulty Republicans are having in finding blue states to put in play.
McCain will go off TV in Michigan, stop dropping mail there and send most of his staff to more competitive states, including Wisconsin, Ohio and Florida. Wisconsin went for Kerry in 2004, Ohio and Florida for Bush.
McCain's campaign didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
Republicans had been bullish on Michigan, hopeful that McCain's past success in the state in the 2000 primary combined with voter dissatisfaction with Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm and skepticism among blue-collar voters about Barack Obama could make it competitive.
McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin spent the night after the GOP convention at a large rally in Macomb County, just outside Detroit. The two returned later last month for another sizable event in Grand Rapids.
But recent polls there have shown Obama extending what had been a small lead, with the economic crisis damaging an already sagging GOP brand in a state whose economy is in tatters.
A McCain event planned for next week in Plymouth, Michigan, has been canceled.

Looking For Something More
Today has been a strange day. Not bad strange, but one of those where you think, "hmm". I heard Iggy Pop on the radio and danced while driving as Hayden giggled from the backseat. He would have danced had he not been strapped down in his carseat. I got in and searched the Internet for my daily fill of celebrity news, Catholic moments and then other things that help me get my day started.
I found that today is the Feast Day for Guardian Angels. I read that, "According to Christian tradition, God assigns to every person a guardian angel whose task is to guide and protect that person from all danger and harm. "How great the dignity of the soul, since each one has from his birth an angel commissioned to guard it," Saint Jerome said." This made me stop and think about my guardian angel, take a moment to turn around and say, "thank you so much". I quickly reflected back on all those times where I found myself saying, "that could, and probably should, have gone very different." I've always thought I had a guardian angel and it hit home most recently in Hayden and my accident. That, right there, could have EASILY gone a different way.
Then today I saw a video on MSN how on a window in a hospital was what was believed to be an outline of the Virgin Mary. People flocked to see it, to take pictures of it and pray. I know there are those people out there who think this is silly, but if the Virgin Mary appeared near me, you bet I'd be one of those people.
Kirk Cameron came out with a movie called Fireproof. http://www.fireproofthemovie.com/ It's a Christian movie (as most you know, Kirk is a hard core Christian) about a guy on the verge of a divorce and this is their journey. It opened it like 800 theaters across the country and became the number three movie in the country opening weekend. Good for Kirk Cameron. I applaud him for doing what he believes in. Number Three!
All of these things make me think that in these hard times, we all are looking for something stable, comforting and familiar. Maybe I'm just more in tune to it today, but it seems that we're all looking for something more. So, I today I am taking the signs given to me today to thank my guardian angel, thank God and try my best to be at peace today and know everything will work out. I hope you all find it today too.
