Beach Day!

I've decided to take tomorrow off and spend the day with Teresa at the beach. I am looking forward to spending time together, just her and I. Frankly, I need a break from work and how better to spend a "free day" than at the beach with your best friend, a book and a few beers. Enjoy your weekend.

Double Trouble

That is what we've been called, my friend Teresa and I. I am not sure that it applies to us these days, but still funny to think about. Yep, Teresa has arrived in her "summer home" here in Charleston. I thought she was a little odd when she walked off the plane with a coat on her arm when it was a steamy 91 degrees here. She then told me it was a high of 60 when she left Michigan. She sat out on our deck and soaked up the rays. Today she is downtown doing the touristy thing. She's looking in to kayak adventures and possibly on Friday, I'll be taking the day off and heading to the beach. I'm hoping it works out.

It's always nice to have friends in town. It's nice to have someone who knows you be around you. I mean really knows you. For those of you who haven't left home to a new and strange city, it'll be hard to understand. You have friends and people that know you to a certain extent. But to have that history with someone, who knows you to the core, it's priceless. You can let it all fly and they expect it from you. It's a nice feeling and I'm enjoying it.

It's going to be a good visit to catch up and enjoy the company. Have a great week.

I Love the Beach!

Flashbacks

What a busy time for us! I don't know why it seems our lives are so busy, but they are. It's fast forwarded to Thursday and I don't even remember what I did the rest of the week.

Hayden stood on his own last night (he was hanging onto the wall), which was big for us. We know that in a few more months we'll be chasing him around. He's getting so big and making me laugh constantly. He's a good natured little boy and we're blessed.

I have been having strange flashbacks of the accident the last few days. I don't know why. I have dealt with it, but can be walking and suddenly, I feel the way I felt when hit and the terror I felt in my stomach when I heard Hayden scream. It then goes away just as fast as it came. My counselor friend, Teresa, would say that I haven't dealt with it, but I'm not sure that's what it is. I think part of me feels a guilt or a fear that I can't protect Hayden. I don't know, maybe I'm just losing my mind. It's the strangest thing walking along and then feeling your whole body react and shift then feel absolute terror. As with anything, it will pass.

My dear friend Teresa (the counselor) is coming down next week for a 10 day visit. We're so excited to spend time with her. I'm sure Hayden will love each and every second with his Auntie T. Then my parents will arrive for a week for Hayden's 1st birthday. Yes, can you believe it's his first birthday already? I swear, this has been the quickest and best year of my life. We will have a few more weekends of visitors and we're looking forward to each and every one of them.

A Blip

This week has been a long one for our family. Robert and I haven't seen much of each other this week. It's hard to be disconnected, but wonderful when you reconnect. There are things that test a marriage, whether it is big things or small things, like being to busy to see each other. Today I am reminded that the tests are always there, it is just whether you acknowledge them or not. When you do, you make the choice of what it is important, the things or the person you are looking at. I sat across the table from Robert at lunch today. Though we both had a lot going on we made the time to meet for a quick lunch together. That little blip that happened allowed me to look at him and thank God for him. To stop my little world and just look at him. Working each and every day at your relationship, reconnecting (better yet, staying connected) is what it important. Days will come and go, but if you go through those days in opposite directions, what's the point of the marriage?

As I sat across from him, I looked at him, listened to his stories and laughed from the pit of my stomach. To find someone that fits you so well, who genuinely loves you and can always make you feel loved is a true blessing. The tests will always be there, but I will hope to always find myself stopping and taking a good hard look and realize how blessed I truly am.

What a Week!

We've had a trying week. The dog was sick, Hayden is sick and we're exhausted. I don't think we've gotten more than 4 hours of sleep at all this week. Last night was the record of a whopping 1.5 hours. Hayden was up most of the night. He's teething and has a cold. A bad combination apparently. It's always crappy when you look at the clock when you finally get in bed and think, "great, my alarm will go off in a hour". Sweet.

On a better note, it's Friday. Most of the schools are out so traffic was a breeze today. Summer has arrived with 94 degrees today and 97 tomorrow! We plan on doing two things this weekend, sleeping and going to the beach.

You know you're a parent when..

Your kid barfs in their high chair at dinner, you wipe it up with your napkin and keep eating your dinner.
