Outing and Motherly Instinct

Well, Hayden and I ventured to my favorite store, Target. It was our first casual outing, going just to go. Of course, I didn't get anything and ended up spending $100. I have no idea on what. Ha! I love Target. We then went to my second favorite place, the public library and then to the Piggly Wiggly to get milk. It was a good venture out and though it takes more thought to do simple tasks, it was a success.

While in the check-out at Target, Hayden started to cry. He was in the car seat in the base of the cart. I was paying and in my peripheral vision, I noticed a man standing next to the cart looking at Hayden. My first motherly instinct kicked in and and I almost punched him in the face. I thought for a second he was going to steal (or touch) him. I quickly realized that he was just admiring him. I think it is just the first time someone, a stranger, has come that close to us. It's funny how protective you get as a mother, it's just instinct. Thank God, I hesitated before actually becoming the fighting Irish I am. I can see the news headlines now, South Carolina mother beats man admiring her infant. She's now in jail and the child is in custody of child services.

We're getting better at everything. I am changing his diaper and clothes quicker, feeding him with more patience and confidence and loving him more and more each day. I knew each day would get better, but I never realized just how much I would enjoy him and love him. Last night, Robert was holding him and they were looking at each other. Robert would move his head from one side to another and Hayden would follow him. You would think that he just became President. It was such a cool thing to watch. Just his daily growth and development is phenomenal. I didn't think it would be this fun. I love every minute of it.
